Project name

The Old Irish Goats Society – to fund the development of a winter sanctuary for feral goats in the winter and complete the OIG Interpretive Centre. After successful completion of the first fundraising campaign, we are now entering the next phase.

Location

Mulranny

Details

Ireland’s native goat is facing extinction due to introgression with European breeds. The remaining few Old Irish goats are found in feral herds gone ‘wild’ on the mountains. Mulranny’s feral herd cause problems in the village during the winter months when food is scarce. A winter sanctuary is planned. A Herd Manager is needed for round up and care. Fencing, shelters, food and vet care will be required. In addition the Herd Manager will manage a conservation grazing program for the Old Irish Goats in the breeding program.
