Project name

Straide Church Conservation Project – to help repair and conserve St Peters and Paul’s Church

Location: Straide

Details

Straide Parish, it’s parishioners and friends must meet the challenge of funding the maintenance, restoration, protection and conservation of Ss Peters and Paul’s Parish Church, a listed building steeped in history. A number of factors have contributed to its present need for repair and maintenance:

  • Ingress of water through corroded lead in the roof structure
  • Failure of stone pointing
  • An extensive outbreak of dry rot

Funds raised by County Mayo Foundation will be used exclusively to repair the sacristy area which is most in need of remedial work being carried out.

The short-term project, when completed, will result in the external walls being made water tight and thus conserved and restored to its original condition as when built in 2016. This will cost US$ 50,000.

The overall conservation project will cost in the region of US$ 185,000.
