Details

Founded in 1990, the North Mayo Heritage Center is dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich heritage of the region. The center offers the community, at home and abroad, an opportunity to learn more about their heritage and their culture. It also remembers the many events that took place in the region and creates a real sense of pride and ownership in the community.

The North Mayo Heritage Center currently holds 1.2 million genealogical records from North Mayo, dating from 1920 to 1930. These records have been gathered from numerous sources for genealogical research. It is estimated that there are still 400,000 records from the period to be uploaded. The center is preparing a five-year program to gather these records, to digitize them and to make them available to genealogy for further research at the center.
